Bake Town

I hear you sista. Me too.

Depends on what you really want the notebook to do. From personal experience, I would recommend Dell (the 700m is tiny but powerful!) - but with Dell or any other manufacturer, you need to browse the websites to see what options they offer and what will suit your needs. Whatever manufacturer you decide on, make certain that the warranty also suits your needs - and see if they offer an accidental damage contract.

I had that calculator, too! (Still have it, actually).
I have a personal Compaq Presario laptop that I like, but it is a little big. My work laptop is a Dell Latitude that's smaller, but has an external CD drive which can be a pain.
I definitely recommend the warranty - we got our laptop from Best Buy with the extended warranty and have had it fixed (free) twice already - in 2 years!

You should really consider an Apple iBook or Powerbook. Sure they are a touch more expensive, but you reduce your risk of your machine not getting screwup my viruses, spyware 100 fold. Plus, if you have a problem, you can just walk into their store and have a Mac Genius (yes that's what they are called) fix it for you. Hands down, get a Mac. When I had one last year, it did not crash or fail me *once* for the two years I had it. No windows machine will ever match that.

For you I'd recommend the 12'' iBook or PowerBook. Probably the iBook would be best for your needs:

Or better still, go play with their machines in their store on 4th St. Trust me, you'll never go back!

... by that I mean, you'll never go back to Windows! ;-)

I had terrible technology envy at Blogher. I felt so inadequate!

I second Jonathan's emotion. I went back to Mac after 10 years with a PC at home. OH MY GAWD. I have no idea what I was waiting for. (I wasted a lot of time getting rid of viruses, spyware, etc.)

Besides which, the 12 inch ibook, which I have, has internal wireless & bluetooth built in, as well as standard 512 MB memory. You can also burn cds and watch dvds. all for the low low price 999. Very light, very cute.

And no, i do not work for apple.
xoxo
